About Scott Chadwick

Scott Chadwick is currently the Head Football Coach at Clayton High School in Clayton, North Carolina. He just completed his 25th season as a head coach. This past season, he collected his 200th career win and led the Comets to the 7A State Championship game. For the 2nd time in 3 years, he was named the GNRC Coach of the Year.

Prior to Clayton, Chadwick served time at the collegiate level, acting as the Director of Recruiting Operations at the University of Maryland. His career has also spanned 3 different states, as he has won games in Maryland, Georgia and North Carolina.

Chadwick’s career has been marked by his ability to take struggling programs and turn them into championship teams. In his 1st head coach job at Bowie High School in Bowie, MD, he took over a program that had 10 straight losing seasons and in 4 years, led them to the only state championship in school history. Then at Lackey High School in Indian Head, MD, he led the Chargers to multiple appearances in the state championship game, an amazing achievement, considering the school had not won a playoff game in 19 years prior to Chadwick’s arrival.

In North Carolina, Chadwick started the program at Marvin Ridge High School and led the Mavericks to the playoffs in all 5 seasons and won the 3A split of their conference three times. But perhaps his best work was done in his 6 seasons at Myers Park High School, which is the largest school in North Carolina. In 2014, he took over a program that had not had a winning season in over a decade and by the end of his tenure in 2019, the Mavericks won 48 games over a four year stretch and were nationally ranked in 2018 and 2019.

When Covid hit, Chadwick returned to his roots in the DMV and spent time leading the Terrapins recruiting and team personnel efforts. Then in June of 2022, he returned to the high school ranks at Clayton, where he has led the Comets to three straight 10 win seasons for only the 2nd time in school history.

Chadwick has been fortunate to have coached players who have gone on to play in every Power 4 conference. He has coached multiple players who won National Championships, and played in the NFL, including New England Patriots QB, Drake Maye. Chadwick has also played a part in the coaching development of seven former players or assistant coaches who have gone on to coach at the Division I level or the NFL, as well as having 17 former assistant coaches who have gone on to become head coaches.

Throughout his career, Chadwick has been recognized for his coaching efforts with dozens of different Coach of the Year Awards. He also became a very highly sought after speaker on the football clinic circuit. His experiences as a speaker have led him to start a second career as a paid speaker. His career in building teams and programs has made him an expert in the fields of leadership, teamwork and culture building and many in the business, educational and military fields are benefitting from that expertise.

Scott’s greatest achievement, however, has been his family. He has been married to Beth for 32 years and they have raised three very successful children. Tyler, a college football coach, who was the team captain of the 2016 Coastal Carolina baseball team, who captured the NCAA championship that year. He also became the Chanticleers starting quarterback that season. His other son Cody works in a law firm in Charlotte and his daughter, Madison is a registered nurse and is married to Jay MacIntyre, the offensive coordinator at St. Thomas University.
