Terry-Smith is a retired assistant dean and tenured faculty for Social Sciences, Philosophy, and Interdisciplinary Studies. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in organizational and social systems, a non-academic Doctor of Theology (ThD.) degree in comparative sacred spirituality, an executive legal certificate, and an executive certificate in Social and Voluntary Sector Leadership.

He has taught at many higher education institutions, served as the Senior Director for Emergency, Military and International services, as well as Executive Director for the American Red Cross of the National Capital Area and as CEO or board member for several non-profit organizations. He is a Colonel with the New Mexico State Defense, a Retired Colonel with the Maryland Defense Force, Maryland Military Department. He is a licensed professional counselor, clinical supervisor, certified trauma professional, and certified autism specialist. He is also a master emergency management specialist.
