Cary Prejean is the founder of Strategic Business Advisors, LLC, a business consulting and coaching firm. He is a native of Louisiana, where he graduated with High Honors from the University of Louisiana – Lafayette with a B.S. in Business, with a major in accounting and minors in Economics and Finance. He began his professional career in Houston, TX, where he worked for several Fortune 500 companies in various accounting positions and Arthur Andersen as a tax accountant. Cary was hired away by a client and moved to New Orleans, where he served as Comptroller and Secretary/Treasurer of this equipment dealer. He acquired his CPA license/certificate in 1982.
Cary then pursued a career in an investment firm as a partner and Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for four years. He eventually branched off in 1987 and started his consulting company, Financial Design Consultants, Inc., with offices in three south Louisiana cities and a staff of 16. Cary served as a part-time CFO for several businesses, along with consulting with hundreds of businesses. During this period, Cary taught courses at four universities in south Louisiana–Louisiana State University, University of Louisiana-Lafayette, Baton Rouge Community College, and Southeastern Louisiana University. The courses covered topics including wealth accumulation, tax planning, estate planning, and investing. He also hosted a call-in radio show, The Financial Design Hour, on WJBO radio for over a year.
Cary also became a certified ontological coach in August 1992 with the Newfield Group, accredited by and part of the International Coach Federation (ICF). He uses his background and training in the ontology of language in his consulting practice to help clients become empowered and highly effective. Cary led dozens of courses, with thousands of students, for Education for Living Seminars, Inc., using this discipline over seven years. These courses covered topics including leadership, team building, effectiveness, communication, and relationships, all from an ontological perspective. He coached hundreds of couples and individuals on empowerment and effectiveness in their lives and businesses over that same time period.
Cary also completed three one-year-long courses based in the ontology of language, including 1) Money, Wealth and Wisdom, 2) Business, Power & Strategy, and 3) Mastering the Art of Professional Coaching. He also designed the Designing Adulthood course and led it several times for Education for Living Seminars, Inc.
Financial Design Consultants, Inc. was wound down in 2008 and consolidated into one office in Baton Rouge. The clientele was reduced to a small and select group of businesses that wanted to develop businesses operating without the owner’s constant interjection. Cary developed his “well-oiled machine” process to help business owners free themselves of the day-to-day micromanagement that most business owners find themselves trapped in after several years of being in business.
The process implements 1) actionable financial data, 2) elimination of dysfunction, and 3) the implementation of long-range strategic planning as part of the ongoing regular business practice. This allows the owners to do what they do best: 1) be the visionary guiding the company, and 2) be the main revenue generator for the company.
More recently, Cary has incorporated the Predictive Index technology into his consultancy. Predictive Index (PI) technology provides insights into what drives a human being in a working environment as well as their strengths. Cary’s consulting, backed by PI technology, puts the right people in the right places to execute the business strategy through talent strategy to achieve desired results.
Cary’s long-term vision is to work with business owners on mastering their long-range strategic vision by incorporating standard practices of 1) maximizing profitability and cash flow strategically, 2) business self-sufficiency without owner involvement, 3) visionary development as an ongoing practice, and 4) long-term strategic planning and execution.
