About David Woods Bartley

David Woods Bartley is an award-winning and internationally renowned mental health advocate, a three-time TEDx speaker, and a survivor of severe childhood trauma and a life-threatening battle with depression and suicidal ideations.

After outlasting a suicide attempt and receiving life-saving support, David began a transformative journey away from what he calls mental “hellness” to the healing space of mental wellness. Today, he uses his story to spark courageous conversations, offering rare insight into often-stigmatized topics like suicide and male sexual trauma. In addition, David draws on his “lived experience” to provide unique perspectives on communication, workplace culture, employee retention, and leadership.

David has delivered over 1,000 talks across the U.S. and internationally, speaking to audiences that include all five branches of the U.S. military, NATO, NASA, the FDA, the VA, multiple major healthcare systems, global corporations, universities nationwide, K–12 schools, and diverse interfaith communities.

In recognition of his impact, David was recently named the 2025 Speaker of the Year for Mental Health and Suicide by the prestigious Excellence Awards and honored as a 2021 Mental Health Champion by the renowned Steinberg Institute.
