About Marc Heyison

In 1992, Mr. Heyison’s mother, Gloria, was diagnosed with breast cancer. To date, she has remained cancer-free. Since his mother’s diagnosis, Mr. Heyison’s passion has been to help men be there for their families. Mr. Heyison has become a nationally recognized leader in care for the caregiver and a sought-after keynote speaker and workshop facilitator.

Marc has created three 501 (c) three non-profit organizations: The Gloria Heyison Breast Cancer Foundation, Men Against Breast Cancer and in 2019, Men Supporting Women With Cancer. Men Against Breast Cancer was the first and only national non-profit organization designed to educate and empower men to be effective caregivers when breast cancer strikes their family.

In 2019, Mr. Heyison continued along the path of care for the caregiver and formed Men Supporting Women With Cancer with its goal to educate and empower all men to be there women who are battling any form of cancer.

Since 2000, Mr. Heyison has received numerous awards for his commitment to helping others: such as, the 2000 recipient of The Columbia Hospital For Women’s Outstanding Individual Commitment Award, 2001 WUSA’s TV 9 “Nine Who Care” Awards for community service in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area and The Thomas Jefferson Award from The American Institute, the highest civilian volunteer award granted in the United States, in 2003, in 2004, Mr. Heyison was named the Male Speaker of the Year by Women of Virtue, in addition, he was the recipient of The 2004 Bess Cohn Humanitarian of the Year Award given annually by the Advertising Specialty Industry, in 2010, the Atlanta Braves Diamond of Hope Award Breast Cancer Awareness Day, Mr. Heyison received the 2011 Susan G. Komen For the Cure Philadelphia Affiliate’s Survivorship Award, in 2016, he received the Howard University Founder’s Award for Community Service and in 2018 the EPW Breast Cancer’s Foundation Eydie’s Angel Award.

Mr. Heyison collaborated on “For The Women We Love, a Breast Cancer Action Plan and Caregiver’s Guide For Men,” the first guidebook of its kind for men. In addition, Mr. Heyison helped author the book on behalf of The Wellness Community, “Frankly Speaking When Someone You Care About Has Breast Cancer.”, and recently, Mr. Heyison authored a caregiving book for male caregivers titled, “It’s Not Rocket Science: A Guy’s Blueprint to Caregiving.”

In addition, Marc has coached baseball at the high school level, taught hitting to athletes at all levels, and worked with athletes on their mental focus and preparation.

Mr. Heyison is a graduate of The George Washington University in Washington, DC, and a former professional baseball player with the Baltimore Orioles. In 1996, Mr. Heyison was elected to The George Washington University Athletic Hall of Fame, and in 1999, he was elected to the Greater Washington, D.C. Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.

Mr. Heyison lives in Maryland with his wife and daughter.
