About Talor Nunez

Talor Nunez is an ambassador for the Messiah that utilizes his former Texas Tech Student Athlete platform to impact others around him.

He was born in Arlington, Texas, and raised most of his life in Midland, Texas. Talor met the love of his life, Kaylee Nunez, while going to high school at Midland Lee. He played football, and basketball, & ran track through his senior year of high school.

At 198 lbs, he was offered a preferred walk-on spot as a safety for football at Texas Tech. Realizing that he was not fast enough to play on Saturdays, he was put on the weight gain program to figure out a way to earn playing time. After gaining ~70 lbs, he was moved to the defensive line. Going into his second eligible season, Talor was awarded a full scholarship that changed the trajectory of his career.

In the summer of 2017, he completed his undergraduate studies with a mechanical engineering degree and married his wife, Kaylee. Going into fall camp his senior year, he started his MBA program and things were going great for him. Talor was awarded the Texas Tech McAuley Distinguished Engineering Student Award, Texas Tech Scholar Athlete Award from the National Football Foundation, Academic All Big 12 Award, Top Merit Award in football for two consecutive years, Male Good Citizen Award, and the Workhorse Award. He was also chosen as the Big 12 Champion for Life which resulted in representing Texas Tech in the Champion for Life commercials aired on TV.

Halfway through fall camp, Talor was notified that his father, Domingo Nunez, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Talor spent weeks away from school and football while his father went through multiple surgeries to remove the cancer and then fight the complications that ensued from the first surgery. During that time, Talor and Kaylee surprised Domingo with the news of his first grandchild on the way. More complications ensued for Domingo and he went to heaven on September 19th, 2017.

One month later, Talor and Kaylee went to a check-up for their baby and found out that their precious little one no longer had a heartbeat. One month later, Talor’s best friend’s dad was in a fatal car accident due to a drunk driver on the wrong side of the road. One month later, Talor’s grandfather, Domingo Nunez Sr., passed away.

After all of the tragedies, Talor’s faith in The Most High God is what carried him through. Talor finished his senior season and picked back up with his MBA classes. He started 37 games in his football career with Texas Tech.

While finishing his MBA in the spring of 2018, Talor also trained for Pro Day and went after his dreams of playing in the NFL. A month before Pro Day, Talor and Kaylee found out that they were pregnant again after losing their first baby in the fall. Knowing how slim the odds of getting an NFL rookie camp invite were due to a tough senior season, Talor’s agent advised him to take on the opportunity of playing football in Canada.

With all of his family’s circumstances at hand and finishing up with his MBA, he decided that it was best for him to hang up the cleats and start providing for his family. Talor and Kaylee moved back to Midland, TX, and Talor immediately started working for Diamondback Energy.

He is now a Production Engineer with Diamondback and devotes his life to being a dangerous disciple of the Good News that comes from the scriptures. His goal is to teach leaders how to train for adversity and how to train in all areas of life from a biblical perspective.
