Tom Barnum is a former NFL-linebacker turned educator, advocate and keynote speaker whose life story is a powerful testament to recovery, resilience and the power of community. After his time in professional football, Tom confronted a serious struggle with alcoholism and addiction that nearly derailed his life and purpose. Through that pivotal journey he discovered a deeper calling: to help others move from desperation to sobriety and build a life of purpose beyond their past.
Having served as an educator, Tom brings a unique blend of discipline, empathy and teaching ability to his work. He knows the locker-room, the field, the highs of performance and the lows of addiction. That dual vantage point enables him to connect with athletes, professionals and anyone facing the destructive grip of alcohol or substance reliance.
Now, Tom uses his platform to deliver hope, clarity and a strategy for lasting transformation. His message centers on the idea that “sobriety is a team sport” that lasting recovery doesn’t happen in isolation but alongside a supportive circle of mentors, peers, coaches and community. Through keynote speeches, workshops and his own book of the same name, he offers a proven playbook for making the shift from loss and addiction to purpose, contribution and renewal.
Whether speaking to sports teams, corporate groups, community organizations or recovery gatherings, Tom brings authenticity, hard-earned insight and optimistic grit. He shows how what once seemed like the end of the road can become the starting point for a new life one built on clarity, connection and service rather than shame, escape and disconnection.
